Top 3 Business Resolutions for 2018 Prosperity
If 2017 is any indicator, the coming year is sure to be full of surprises — the variety of which will either create hope, or create focus. Business owners can ring in 2018 with a bit of both, given they lead with these three business resolutions.
1. Reduce stress
“Play is the highest form of research.” – Albert Einstein
Nothing can ruin a perfectly productive workday quite like negative stress. A study of the relationship between mental stress and the ability to generate innovative ideas in the workplace show that there are different types of stress. Some stressors, like those related to positive challenges in the workplace, can actually improve creativity. Other types, types that hinder or distract, can cause employees to become less innovative. Eliminating stressors caused by negativity like gossip, bureaucracy, and insecurity in one’s role can help improve the creativity of you and your team. In addition, implement a few new habits:
Lower stress and improve focus with play and laughter. Think like a kid. Brain breaks, games, and healthy dose of comedy can do wonders for job performance.
Create a healthier workplace. Whether you work alone or with a team, your work environment should be clear of distractions, and free of unhealthy food options.
Exercise regularly. Easier said than done, but you’ll feel better when you get the blood flowing. Step outside for some fresh air and a walk around the block. Daily exercise reduces stress and makes your workday more
2. Lead with more heart
“We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about progress and prosperity for our community… Our ambitions must be broad enough to include the aspirations and needs of others, for their sakes and for our own.” – Cesar Chavez
It doesn’t matter if you’re barely scraping by, or if you’re at the top of your industry. There is always room for leading with more heart. This resolution is not only easy to keep, it will pay off twofold for you, and for everyone your business touches.Give back – make a charitable giving calendar today, and stick to it. Whether you volunteer in the community or donate to your favorite non-profit, the community in which you do business is worth your attention.
Be an example of power by lifting others up and supporting their efforts. Show others appreciation, celebrate their achievements, and communicate with sincerity and kindness.
3. Visualize your goals
“Champions aren’t made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them: A desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill.”
Realizing your potential in business is not just about shooting a dart at or being dealt the best hand at the table. In order to set lofty goals — and actually achieve them — one has got to visualize the outcome in detail. A few years ago, Entrepreneur wrote an article exploring the power of visualization in goal-setting. Noting the influence of positive visualization on celebrities like Jim Carrey, Mohamed Ali, and Michael Jordan, it encourages goal-setters to focus the mind intently on the experience of victory, and less about the barriers standing in the way of it. But visualization is not only picturing where will you be this next year, but thinking about what will it feel like.
How will you react?
Who will be by your side?
What will you have learned?
How will you have changed?
Furthermore, when you reach significant objective or experience a positive breakthrough in your business, capture it as best you can via realistic business resolutions, so that you can recall it as you continue visualization of the bigger win.
Here’s to a new year. May your stress be light, your leadership sincere, and your goals visualized. Happy 2018 for the AccountingSuite team!
